What is a VAT and GST calculator?

A VAT and GST calculator helps you move between tax-exclusive and tax-inclusive pricing without rebuilding the formula every time. You can treat an amount as a net price, add one or more tax rates, and see the final gross total, or treat the amount as a gross price and extract the implied tax and net base. This is useful for invoice preparation, quoting, expense checks, ecommerce pricing, and cross-checking spreadsheets.

How to use the VAT and GST calculator

  1. 1Choose whether your amount is a net value before tax or a gross value that already includes tax.
  2. 2Enter the amount and one or more VAT or GST rates, separated by commas, spaces, or line breaks if you want a multi-rate comparison.
  3. 3Review the net, tax, and gross table, then copy or download the CSV if you need to paste the result into an invoice, quote, or spreadsheet.

Common VAT and GST calculation jobs

Checking invoice math

Confirm that a net line item plus the chosen tax rate produces the gross total you expect before you send or approve an invoice.

Reverse-calculating tax-inclusive prices

Start from a price that already includes tax, then separate the tax amount from the underlying net revenue for reporting or budgeting.

Comparing regional scenarios

Run several configured rates against the same amount when you need a quick side-by-side view without making legal claims about any specific jurisdiction.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this as official tax advice?

No. This tool only performs arithmetic on the amount and rates you enter. It does not account for exemptions, reduced categories, thresholds, filing obligations, or any jurisdiction-specific compliance rule.

How should I enter multiple rates?

Type the rates as comma-separated, space-separated, or line-separated percentages, such as 5, 10, 20. Duplicate rates are removed so the table stays easy to review.

Does the extractor assume the amount already includes tax?

Yes. In extract mode the calculator treats the amount as a gross total, divides by one plus the rate, and shows the derived net amount and tax share for each configured rate.
